Event Picture:

We successfully demonstrate broadband THz wave emission from cryogenic fluid – liquid nitrogen. A flowing liquid nitrogen line is ionized by focused optical pulses. Compared with the signal from liquid water, a THz pulse with a shorter pulse duration and a broader bandwidth is observed. Moreover, liquid nitrogen also prefers an optical beam with a sub-picosecond pulse duration for excitation, which shows a different photo-ionization process of liquids.
