In this paper, a scheme is developed for measuring electron bunch lengths in Free Electron Lasers (FELs) and Linear Accelerators (LINACs). The presented scheme uses integrated thin film lithium niobate (LiNbO3 or LN) Mach-Zehnder interferometers (MZIs) to overcome the bandwidth limitation of bulk LN. Extrapolated results from device measurements exhibit a 150 GHz electro-optic detection bandwidth, a 7.5x improvement over ion-diffused waveguide LN modulators.
