New Family Of 2D Plasma ExcitationsPoster (ELEC-P2)

A new family of plasma modes has been discovered in the hybrid system formed by a highly conductive gate placed in proximity to the two-dimensional electron system. The plasmon spectrum combines characteristic features of both gated and ungated two-dimensional plasmons. The plasma excitations have been found to exhibit anomalously strong interaction with light and, as a consequence, anomalously weak damping.
