Spintronic GdFe/Pt THz Emitter Systems

We present the magnetic-field-dependent terahertz emission of spintronic heterostructures based on platinum and ferrimagnetic gadolinium-iron alloys (GdxFe1-x) in the entire composition range (0 x 1). Excellent agreement is found between the measured data and a theoretical model up to a Gd content of x = 0.4. Based on these results we develop a spintronic multilayer system with two GdxFe1-x layers. The THz emission amplitude of this emitter depends on the relative orientation of the Fe magnetic moments in the two ferrimagnetic alloys and can be switched between high and low by varying the emitter temperature.
